The United States National Chinese Martial Arts

Video Collection

A note on production values

The videos in this series were produced with low-end professional equipment available in the mid 1980s. Footage was shot on Sony ¾” U-Matic and U-Matic SP video tape recorders and edited on U-Matic SP equipment. Three of the six cameras used to document the 1989 competitions were low-end, single-tube cameras, and the 1986 Southwest United States Kung Fu/Wushu Exposition Masters Demonstration tape contains footage from a consumer-grade VHS camera. The production values throughout are adequate and generally improve as the years progress. All of the masters’ demonstrations and most of the competition videos feature multiple camera angles. The original tapes were rescued after twenty years of neglect and storage in less-than-ideal conditions, and during that time, some sustained damage. The publishers made every attempt to preserve the images and to present viewers with the best possible quality, and we apologize in advance for any glitches in the final product.
